Your privacy and the Future of SMSF research

How we collect, use and protect information through the Future of SMSF survey and this website.

The short version

  • Your survey answers are anonymous. The survey doesn’t ask for your name or email.
  • If you ask for the report or a reminder, we keep those details apart from your answers. Nothing links the two.
  • We publish combined results only. No person or practice is identified.
  • We never share your answers or contact details with report partners.

Who we are

The Future of SMSF research is run by The SMSF Academy Pty Ltd trading as Smarter SMSF (ABN 53 146 136 521). We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. This statement covers the survey and futureofsmsf.com.au. It sits alongside our full Smarter SMSF privacy policy.

Your survey answers

The survey asks about your practice, your services and your views on the sector. It doesn’t ask for your name, email or the name of your firm. The survey runs on SurveyMonkey with anonymous responses switched on, so your IP address and email address are not recorded with your answers.

We use the answers to produce the Future of SMSF 2027 report, the interactive dashboard and the benchmarking tool. All three show combined results. Results are only shown for groups large enough that no person or practice can be identified.

The survey runs in three waves. Each wave is a separate survey, and we don’t link your answers from one wave to the next.

Answering is voluntary. You can skip any question or stop at any time.

Details you choose to give us

When you finish a wave, you can ask us to send you the free report, remind you when the next wave opens, or both. To do this we collect your name, email and role. Your organisation is optional.

  • We keep these details in a separate system from your survey answers. We don’t link the two.
  • We use them only for what you asked for: the report, wave reminders and, if you agree, Smarter SMSF updates.
  • Every email has an unsubscribe link.

If you contact us or make a partner enquiry, we use your details to reply and to manage that enquiry.

Report partners

Report partners support the research. They don’t receive survey answers, raw data or the contact details of anyone who takes part.

Some partners share the survey through their own channels using a tracked link. That link tells us which partner referred a visit. It doesn’t tell us or the partner who you are.

Website and cookies

This site uses cookies and analytics tools to understand how people use it. We use Google Analytics. We don’t use advertising or social media tracking pixels. Google Analytics collects usage data, like the pages you visit and how you arrived. It doesn’t identify you by name. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

How we store and protect information

We store information with reputable providers and take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. Some providers store data outside Australia. SurveyMonkey, our survey platform, stores survey data in the United States, and its support staff in other countries may access it to maintain the service. Our email and website providers may also store data outside Australia [CONFIRM: email platform name and country]. We keep contact details only as long as we need them for the purposes above. We keep survey data to compare results with future editions.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you. You can also ask us to delete it. Because survey answers are anonymous, we can’t find or change a particular person’s answers.

For questions or complaints, contact our privacy officer at team@smartersmsf.com or on 1300 95 94 76. Or write to PO Box 25, Flinders Lane VIC 8009. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
